My Birth Certificate is a State Sanctioned Lie

Today I read an article on CNN.com about a married couple in the U.K. They are victims of a sealed adoption where they were adopted by separate families at birth. Unknowing this information they have married each other. I feel so terrible for them because now they have fallen in love, most likely have been intimate with each other and their marriage in annulled. So not only were they shamed at birth and throughout there lives, now they are shamed as adults and their marriage. Where do they go from here, how do they form a new relationship as brother and sister. I cannot imagine. It brings me to my own anger of sealed adoptions and how the interest is only for the birth parents and not the children.

I am tired of my birth being a "dirty little secret". It is every child's right to harass their parents. lol. It is also my right to have information on my birth and my origin and my nationality and my medical history. I think it is crazy when most of the world has recognized the rights of adult adoptees and to the knowledge of their origins and equal access to government-held documents which pertain to them. I can't believe that there are still groups out there that lobby for sealed records and advocate "birth parent privacy" implying that we adoptees are potential stalkers who would harm our birth parents if given access to our own records.

I am all for adoption and I would adopt if I did not have my own children. But there is a big difference in open and sealed adoption. I believe in the truth and am against the "protection" from the truth. Which brings me to this great website called dna registry where you can send in your dna to track your ancestral origins. Once again science is my friend. I view science as the truth in life.
